| Planning Your Trip | Long-term medical insurance The long-term medical insurance is provided for people, who do not have any other medical insurance. Most people who have health care coverage in their home country, so travel medical insurance is interesting to long-term travellers, or to those who have no medical insurance, or who are living and working outside their country.
Emergency travel medical insurance Travel medical insurance is worked out for people who have medical coverage at home, but whose health plan does not cover them while they are abroad. Emergency travel medical insurance only covers emergency services abroad; when you get home, you're on your own medical insurance. Most health insurance plans and health supporting organizations include their own supplies for emergency care while abroad, at least for trips of less than 30 days.
You should know that medical insurance covers the cost of an air ambulance; doctor’s, nurse’s service and so on. If you are injured or ill, you cannot get to an appropriate medical facility on an ordinary passenger flight. Medical evacuations can cost tens of thousands of dollars. So it makes sense to buy this coverage if you are going to an area where you will be far from modern medical service or on a dangerous vacation.
Some insurance organizations can cover medical service anywhere generally offer other coverage only through networks of doctors in your own state. Other organizations cover the most part of your medical costs only if you go to doctors in network, and again, the networks are usually only local.
The cancellation and interruption of your trip Trip cancellation and interruption can be covered by travel insurance if you have to cancel your trip, or cut it short, for specified reasons. The reasons are: your illness or injury, bad weather, financial default of the airline or stoppage of the airline action, cruise operator or tour operator which results in bankruptcy or discontinued services, jury duty or terrorism.
